HEI's reputation within the space industry for hydrogen COPV innovation attracted the world's early adopters of hydrogen for on-board automotive use. HEI successfully supplied the first "proof of concept" extreme high-pressure gaseous and cryogenic compressed hydrogen automotive solutions to the global leaders of automotive OEMs in the early adoption of hydrogen COPVs.

We have successfully demonstrated capabilities in cryogenic compressed hydrogen as well as very high-pressure gaseous hydrogen. Specifics are available to our clients on a case-by-case basis.

HEI has extensive experience in the design, manufacture, and qualification of compressed natural gas (CNG) composite pressure vessels. Our CNG cylinder capabilities span SCBA-sized portable containers through large vehicle fuel tanks.

HEI's involvement in notable programs includes the collaborative 3M and Chesapeake Energy partnership to design, manufacture, and market a broad portfolio of CNG tanks for the US transportation market — reducing costs through advanced liner and material technology while increasing performance.

Oxygen Storage

High-pressure oxygen COPVs for aerospace and medical.

HEI designs and manufactures composite vessels for high-pressure oxygen storage, including aerospace oxygen supply systems, medical oxygen cylinders, and SCBA applications. Our Type 2, 3, and 4 oxygen vessels are designed to relevant DOT and international standards.

Oxygen storage at high pressure demands strict material compatibility and cleanliness requirements — HEI's controlled manufacturing environment and material selection expertise ensure oxygen-service compliance throughout the build process.
